How to get there?
By public transportation
Option 1: Cheapest if less than 4 people, by Skybus + train (NZ$21.60 – about 1h without waiting time):
Outside the arrivals area (door 8) of the International terminal and outside the Jetstar forecourt at the domestic terminal, you’ll see the Skybuses. They charge NZ$18 (one way), from the airport to the city. There are also family discounts. You can pay cash direct to the driver or at the Skybus stand in the international terminal (cash or credit card).
There are buses every 10-15 minutes on day time and up to every 30 mins on night time, 24/365 (24 hours a day, 365 days a year).
See their website for further information: Skybus Express Auckland.
There are 2 routes: “Mt Eden Road” and “Dominion Road”.
The shortest to get to Kiwi Heritage Homestay being via “Mt Eden Road” route to avoid traffic in city center (Airbus alternates between Mt Eden Road and Dominion Road). The bus route is written at the front of the bus. It takes about 40 mins.
Stop at Mount Eden then hop on a train to Glen Eden (direction Swanson or Waitakere, platform 2). The train station being right next to the bus stop. You can buy your ticket at an automated machine on the platform. Payment by cash or credit card available. There are trains every 14-30 mins. See West Auckland train timetable (.pdf).
Train stop: Glen Eden (8th station – 22 mins). The stations are announced in the train. Cost: around NZ$6.50 (NZ$3.40 for a child).
Once out of the train, go down the stairs to the main street and walk up the (easy) hill until you reach Kiwi Heritage Homestay on your right hand side, right after the main road turns left. Takes about 8 mins.
Please, see below the note for night arrivals
Note for night arrivals:
There are buses from the airport 24h a day, 365 days a week… but trains are another story! So then if you arrive during the night, please take the following in consideration:
- To catch the first or last train to Glen Eden, please have a look at the Auckland Train Western Line Timetable (.pdf) with all the infos you need being highlighted. To be sure to arrive on time, plan on catching the Airbus (Mt Eden Rd route) at least 50 mins before the train departure at Mt Eden.
- Please consult the Auckland Transport website in case of temporary schedule modification for trains.
- If you can’t catch the first or latest train, then you can take the Shuttle for cheaper than a taxi if you are less than 4 people. Please see below.
Option 2: Hassle free, by Super Shuttle (from NZ$53* – about 25-50 mins without traffic):
Minivan with a trailer which can take up to 11 passengers and their luggage.
Super Shuttle drivers will pick you up (servicing every flight every day) and drop you off at Kiwi Heritage Homestay’s doorstep. They’ll even help you with your luggage.
- A “shared ride” booking includes up to two standard suitcase sized luggage items and a standard cabin bag per person.
*Cost: NZ$53-56 (1 passenger) + NZ$10 for additional passenger(s), whatever the time of arrival.
- An “Exclusive transfer”. Cost: NZ$121 whether you’re alone or 11. Worth it from 8 passengers travelling together.
More information and online booking on Super Shuttle website.

Option 3: Fastest and worth it from 4 people, by Taxi (from NZ$80 – about 22 mins – without traffic):
A ride to Kiwi Heritage Homestay will cost you around NZ$80-90. If this NZ$80 price applies, it worth taking a taxi from 4 passengers compare to the Airbus or the Super Shuttle service.
2 companies are operating from the Airport:
Auckland Airport licenses specific taxi and shuttle companies to ensure airport visitors and travellers receive a high standard of service. All taxi and shuttle companies are able to drop you off at the airport, however only licensed companies are able to pick you up from the designated taxi ranks at the terminal buildings.
Taxi and shuttle ranks are located outside the arrivals area (door 8) at the international terminal and outside the Jetstar forecourt at the domestic terminal. You can pre-book with one of the companies listed above or just turn up at the terminal ranks – taxis and shuttles are always available.
Whether you arrive from the Ferry terminal, Britomart transport centre (trains and buses terminals) or the main national bus companies central Auckland stop on Quay street (Intercity, Naked bus…), you just need to jump onto the comfortable train or bus to get straight to Kiwi Heritage Homestay in about 45 mins.
Easiest, by train (NZ$5.60 – about 46 mins):
Direction: Britomart is the beginning/ending station, so no wonder about what direction :) Just get into Britomart building and take the WEST train to Swanson or Waitakere. Cost: $5.60 ($3.40 for a child).
Train stop: Glen Eden (11th station – 38 mins, it seems shorter than it is… take a nap or enjoy a book :) ). The stations are announced in the train.
Once out of the train, go down the stairs to the main street and walk up the (easy) hill until you reach Kiwi Heritage Homestay on your right hand side, right after the main road turns onto left. Takes about 8 mins.
Less walk, by bus (NZ$5.60 – about 40 mins without traffic):
Departure from the bus transport centre in front of Britomart and the Ferry terminal.
Britomart entrance being behind you, cross the road (Queen Street) and go to the last block of bus stop on the right (the one right across the road of the Ferry terminal entrance). Catch the bus #163 or #154 (green bus “Go West” direction Glen Eden).
Bus stop: #5454 (68 West Coast Road). Around +-38 mins ride (without traffic), the bus stop is 700 meters after a left turn where there is the Kelston Shopping Center with a McDonald, Mobil petrol station, Countdown supermarket… After that left turn, there is a small roundabout right next to Countdown then a small bridge. After crossing the bridge, you can push the “stop” button to get off at the next bus stop. You’ll pass Kiwi Heritage Homestay on your left a bit before the bus stop which is downhill after the right turn. Just walk-back up-hill. Takes about 2 mins.
Please, note that during traffic peak, it might take over an hour to get to Glen Eden.
