There are many great nature walks in the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. Fairy Falls would be one of the most popular ones for good reason – I went there today after an absence of over a decade and rediscovered it’s beauty.
The Falls are around a 20 minute drive from Kiwi Heritage Homestay. The walk is around 45 minutes through cooling native bush to reach the bottom of the falls which is a nice place for a quick dip in the summer time or a picnic lunch.
There are many healthy looking Kauri Trees to see along the way, seemingly not affected by Kauri Die-back – a disease that has been killing a number of these majestic trees and for which there is currently no known cure.
It is then a fairly steep climb back which makes you wish you could have a dip in the cooling waters again before you hop in your car for the ride home! Maybe stop off for an ice block in Titirangi Village?
