Friday was a lovely sunny Winter day – perfect for a walk in the Waitakere Ranges. Went for an easy one hour hike on the Karamatura Loop track which covers a small part of the Hillary Trail. Unfortunately missed the short walk off the Loop Track that leads to the Karamatura Waterfall, but will do that next time.
Then off to the the Huia Foodstore for lunch. While selecting our lunch, we were told they had just got fresh Terakihi fish in, which my fellow hiker ordered. He declared this to be the best Fish and Chips he has eaten in New Zealand so far. I suffered a touch of menu envy but my Tofu burger was very tasty as well.
We then did a quick walk up to the Lower Huia dam. Very quiet and peaceful up there and lovely views over the dam and the Manukau Harbour.
