I paid a visit to the Avondale Sunday Market this weekend, which is one of many markets out West.
The Avondale Market is one of the oldest and largest markets in Auckland (and possibly New Zealand). It started out as a few stalls in the 70’s and has grown to accommodate 15,000 to 20,000 visitors in one day.
The vendors and visitors are made up of the diverse cultural mix that is West Auckland. Here you will find many hard to get food items and the freshest food out west all in the one location. Have you ever tried to buy a Vietnamese Mint plant, or a Curry Leaf plant? I managed to track down both at the Avondale Market after being unable to find them elsewhere.
You can enjoy a hot dog on a stick with chips, South East Asian noodle soup, sticky rice, Falafels, Chinese Steam buns and much more. Buy your fresh fruit and veg, fish, spice mixes or bargain on the bric-a-brac and second hand clothing, tools, furniture and antiques.
Or just wander around and soak up the atmosphere.
