Relax and soak up the atmosphere at Humbug.
Humbug Cafe is just around the corner from Kiwi Heritage Homestay, in Rua Road. Always popular with the locals and guests wanting to get a more substantial breakfast or for a very pleasant morning/afternoon tea or lunch. The eclectic decoration includes Crown Lynn (which was manufactured in the now long gone Crown Lynn factory in New Lynn).
There are travel books for you to peruse and a special area for the young ones to play. Watch out for the daily specials which are always super tasty; two of which are pictured here (Salmon rosti and calamari salad). I particularly enjoy their spicy pumpkin cake and there’s a great selection of drinks to choose from too.
If you’re after some vintage bargains after your cafe break, Deco 2 Retro is a great collectibles shop which is in the same block of shops, just behind Humbug Cafe. They have a wide range of furniture and furnishings, an extensive range of Crown Lynn, glass, china, ceramics, pottery, kitchenware, tins, artwork, toys and a fine selection of Kiwiana. Humbug and Deco 2 Retro are both open Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays.
