Cycling the Mighty Waikato

Cycling the Mighty Waitako

I had the opportunity to cycle parts of the Waikato River Trails last weekend with the Auckland Cycling group.

The Waikato River Trails is part of Nga Haerenga, the New Zealand Cycle Trail which is a national project to build a world class network of cycle trails. It follows New Zealand’s longest river, the mighty Waikato and is a beautiful part of the North Island!!

I hired a bike from the ever helpful Mike at Lake District Adventures for the weekend..

We sayed the night in an old maternity hospital in Mangakino – Lakeside Village Inn. Lovely place – highly recommended!!!

Unfortunately I came off my bike part way through Day Two… ouch!!!!

Not easy to cycle the remaining 20k. Ride ended in Mangakino, which is home to the lovely Lake Maraetai. Now in plaster and looking forward to future rides (once mended).
